Berlin, May 24 – Multiple shots were fired at a bakery in the Neukölln district of Berlin in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police were alerted to the incident on Kottbusser Damm and found several shell casings at the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack.
Shots Fired at 4:00 AM in Neukölln
According to police reports and witness statements, the incident occurred around 4:00 AM when several shots were fired at the storefront of the bakery. Responding officers secured multiple shell casings on the parking strip in front of the business.
“According to current findings and witness statements, several shots were fired at the window front of the shop on Kottbusser Damm around 4:00 AM,” the investigators stated. The police confirmed that “no one was injured.”
LKA Special Unit ‘Ferrum’ Takes Over Investigation
The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) special unit “Ferrum” has taken over further investigations into the shooting. This unit, whose name is Latin for “iron,” was established in November 2025 to address the increasing concern over violent crime involving firearms in Berlin.
The public prosecutor’s office has also set up a special investigation group named “Telum,” meaning “assault weapon” in Latin, to tackle these types of cases.
Concerns Over Gun Violence in Berlin
This incident marks another occurrence of gun violence on Berlin’s streets, a trend that has been a growing concern for the police for some time. Just a day prior, on Saturday, police announced that the ‘Ferrum’ unit would also be taking over another case involving a shooting.
In that separate incident, a 25-year-old man was shot and seriously injured in the Kreuzberg district on Friday evening. Reports indicate that a dispute preceded the shooting, and the perpetrator subsequently fled the scene.
The repeated incidents of gun violence underscore the challenges faced by law enforcement in Berlin and highlight the importance of specialized units like ‘Ferrum’ in addressing these serious crimes.
Investigations into the bakery shooting are ongoing, with authorities working to determine the motive and identify those responsible for the attack.
