Bonn (dpa) – Bayern Munich secured a confident victory against Bonn in their first game following the departure of coach Gordon Herbert. The match also saw a new attendance record set after 25 years.
Bayern Dominates in Post-Herbert Era Opener
In their inaugural game since Gordon Herbert’s departure, the FC Bayern Munich basketball team achieved a dominant win against the Telekom Baskets Bonn during a record-breaking Bundesliga match. Isiaha Mike led the scoring for Munich with 22 points, while Tylan Birts contributed twelve points for Bonn.
Record-Breaking Attendance in Bonn
A staggering 18,713 spectators filled the Lanxess Arena, setting a new visitor record. Bonn, which relocated the match against the champions to the Cologne arena, previously held the old record. 25 years ago, 18,506 visitors watched the game against Alba Berlin. This new event surpassed that figure by over 200 fans.
Munich started strongly in the packed arena. The league leaders appeared unfazed by the coaching change, immediately taking the lead. Bonn struggled, particularly in offense, missing too many opportunities from both two and three-point range. With a significantly better shooting percentage, Bayern quickly surged ahead to a 23:9 lead in the first quarter. Bonn showed some improvement in the second quarter.
Other Bundesliga Results
After the restart, the home team’s comeback attempt failed to materialize. Bayern remained unchallenged, effortlessly controlling the game. Bonn found no answer to Bayern’s clear dominance. Whenever Bonn found gaps and managed to narrow the lead, the visitors consistently had the perfect response. Munich maintained their lead throughout the entire game, which did not dampen the atmosphere in the arena.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Würzburg Baskets won the chasing pack duel against Syntainics MBC with a score of 89:71, moving past MBC into third place. The Hamburg Towers secured a victory in the relegation battle against MLP Academics Heidelberg with a 111:108 win after overtime.
