Berlin Appoints Jörg Seegers as Construction Site Coordinator to Streamline Projects

Berlin, January 30 – The city of Berlin has announced the appointment of Jörg Seegers, former managing director of BVG Projekt GmbH, as its new construction site coordinator. Seegers will assume this voluntary role starting February 1, with a mandate to enhance the coordination of construction projects across Berlin’s transport network, minimize disruptions, and optimize operational efficiency.

A Veteran in Public Transport Project Management

Transport Senator Ute Bonde (CDU) emphasized the strategic importance of this appointment. “He will improve coordination between the various stakeholders – districts, utility companies, construction companies, and the administration – and thus make a significant contribution to ensuring that traffic in our city runs more smoothly despite intensive construction activity,” explained Bonde.

According to the transport authority, Seegers brings extensive experience to this position, having been responsible for the planning, management, and implementation of major public transport construction projects for many years. His practical background provides him with a deep understanding of the complexities and requirements of construction processes within densely populated urban environments.

Key Responsibilities: Improving Coordination and Combating Dormant Sites

Seegers’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating large construction projects that often require years of lead time.
  • Improving information dissemination to the public affected by construction activities.
  • Enhancing coordination among various stakeholders, administrations, and responsible bodies.
  • Preventing the unauthorized expansion of construction site areas.
  • Actively combating “dormant construction sites” where work has been temporarily suspended, causing prolonged inconvenience.

The appointment of a dedicated construction site coordinator underscores Berlin’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by extensive urban development and infrastructure projects. The goal is to ensure that essential construction work proceeds with minimal impact on daily life and traffic flow.

The initiative aims to create a more streamlined and transparent process for all construction-related activities, ultimately benefiting both residents and businesses in Berlin.
