Berlin, July 13 – Berlin’s high school graduates have once again demonstrated exceptional academic performance, with approximately 15,200 students successfully passing their Abitur exams in 2026. This year’s results show a record pass rate of 95.1%, an increase from 94.5% in the previous year and 93.8% in 2023. Additionally, the average grade for the Abitur exams has consistently remained at 2.3 for the fourth consecutive year, highlighting the sustained high standards of education in the capital.
Nearly 530 Students Achieve Perfect 1.0 Grade
The Senate Department of Education reported that an impressive 530 students achieved the highest possible grade of 1.0. Among these outstanding achievers, three graduates reached the pinnacle of academic excellence with a score of 896 out of a possible 900 total points. Two of these top performers hail from the Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium, while one is from the Rosa-Luxemburg-Gymnasium. Notably, Berlin’s youngest high school graduate, a 16-year-old student from the John F. Kennedy School, also achieved a perfect 1.0 grade, underscoring the diverse talent within the city’s educational system.
Education Senator Commends Students’ Dedication
Katharina Günther-Wünsch (CDU), Berlin’s Education Senator, praised the students’ achievements. “The results of this year’s final exams are a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our students,” she stated. Senator Günther-Wünsch emphasized the importance of a strong educational foundation, noting that “a good education opens up opportunities and lays the foundation for a successful start to vocational training, college or a career.”
