Berlin, August 11 – The Berlin House of Representatives is launching a campaign today to promote a high voter turnout in the upcoming Berlin elections on September 20. This initiative, titled ‘Elect Your Berlin,’ aims to ensure strong legitimacy for the new House of Representatives.
‘Elect Your Berlin’ Campaign Kicks Off
Parliament President Cornelia Seibeld is set to launch the cross-party campaign today at 10:00 AM. The initiative will utilize various channels, including posters, social media posts, and other activities, and will involve diverse supporters from society and the business community.
According to Seibeld, the primary goal is to motivate as many eligible voters as possible to cast their ballots in the elections for the House of Representatives and the district assemblies (BVV). A high voter turnout is crucial for a vibrant democracy and strengthens democratic participation, she stated.
Voter Eligibility and Key Statistics
Approximately 2.5 million Berlin residents are eligible to vote in the elections for the House of Representatives. For the BVV elections, this number rises to around 2.75 million. This latter group includes EU citizens who do not hold German citizenship and are therefore ineligible to vote in the House of Representatives elections.
The campaign underscores the importance of every vote in shaping the future of Berlin, emphasizing that active participation is a cornerstone of a robust democratic system.
