Berlin, February 19 – In a significant operation against organized gang crime in the capital, Berlin police arrested three suspects and confiscated several firearms during a raid in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen. The operation, which took place yesterday evening, involved around 60 officers who searched cafes and bars along Wollankstraße in the Mitte district.

Special Unit “Ferrum” Leads the Operation

The raid was spearheaded by the State Criminal Police Office’s special unit “Ferrum,” established last year to specifically combat gang-related crime through large-scale operations in known hotspots such as bars, restaurants, and other gathering places for criminal groups. The unit’s name, Latin for “iron,” reflects its firm stance against criminal activities.

During the operation, special forces questioned approximately 40 individuals. According to a police spokesperson, no one was injured during the deployment. The confiscated weapons are now undergoing forensic examination.

Targeting Drug Crime and Extortion

Police assess the current conflicts as turf wars within the drug trade. Additionally, criminals are reportedly threatening and extorting business owners. In recent weeks and months, there have been repeated incidents of gunfire in the city, underscoring the urgency of such police actions.

The police department has not released further details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals or the specific charges they face. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement in organized crime.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Berlin authorities to curb gang-related violence and maintain public safety in the city. The “Ferrum” unit continues its work to dismantle criminal networks and address the root causes of organized crime.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available from official sources.
