Berlin, May 10 – Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate was illuminated in the colors of the European flag on Saturday to mark Europe Day. The landmark was bathed in blue light from sunset until midnight, as announced by the Senate Chancellery.

In addition to the blue illumination, the Gate was also adorned with the EU flag and the inscription “United in Diversity.” Berlin’s Governing Mayor, Kai Wegner (CDU), stated, “With the illumination of the Brandenburg Gate on Europe Day, we celebrate European unity.”
Europe Day is celebrated annually on May 9. This date commemorates the declaration made by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950, which led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the precursor to the modern European Union.
