Cannabis Heist at Munich Pharmacy: 25 Kilos Stolen
Munich, July 17, 2026 – In a brazen act, burglars targeted the St. Ursula Pharmacy at Münchner Freiheit, stealing 25 kilograms of cannabis. The incident, which took place over the weekend of June 6-8, has left the pharmacy owner, Roman Vogl (50), with a loss estimated at 75,000 Euros in wholesale value, and 150,000 Euros in retail value.
The perpetrators gained entry through a window in the backyard of the pharmacy’s laboratory. According to Vogl, the burglars drilled a hole in the window frame, then used a rod to turn the handle from the inside, allowing them to enter undetected. The theft was discovered on Monday morning by the cleaning staff.
A Growing Trend Across Germany
While this is an isolated incident for Munich, police nationwide are observing a disturbing trend of pharmacy burglaries specifically targeting cannabis. With the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes in April 2024, more pharmacies are stocking and selling the drug, inadvertently attracting criminals.
Previous incidents include similar burglaries in Stuttgart, Hesse, Gütersloh, and Pfalgrafenweiler in the Black Forest. In a more extreme case in Hanover, a cannabis pharmacist was even assaulted in his home to obtain the pharmacy keys. Recently, a pharmacy in Dinkelsbühl was hit, with the stolen goods valued at approximately 10,000 Euros.
Pharmacy Owner’s First Burglary and Enhanced Security Measures
Roman Vogl, whose St. Ursula Pharmacy has been a fixture at Münchner Freiheit since 1902, expressed his shock, stating it was the first burglary his pharmacy had ever experienced. Fortunately, the damage was covered by insurance. Following the incident, Vogl has relocated his cannabis stock to a secured cabinet within the pharmacy premises, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures.
Vogl, who sells cannabis for medical purposes with a prescription across his four pharmacies, notes that the cannabis trade has been beneficial, allowing him to hire more staff. He views it as a “small economic stimulus package” for his business.
The police have confirmed the burglary and the theft of the marijuana. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of this high-value theft.
