Bus Accident in Munich: 14 Injured, Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver
Munich, June 22, 2026 – A bus accident on Friday, June 19, 2026, on Lindwurmstraße in Munich, Bavaria, resulted in 14 people being injured. Five of the injured passengers were transported to a hospital by ambulance. The Munich police have launched an investigation and are actively seeking witnesses to identify the driver of a Tiguan who allegedly caused the accident and then fled the scene.
The incident occurred when a 54-year-old bus driver was operating a public transit bus inbound on Lindwurmstraße, in the second of two lanes. According to police reports, an unidentified driver of a Tiguan, travelling ahead of the bus, suddenly and without apparent reason applied the brakes sharply to overtake another bus that was stopped on the left. This abrupt manoeuvre forced the 54-year-old bus driver to perform an emergency stop.
Emergency Braking Leads to Multiple Injuries
The sudden and forceful braking caught the bus passengers off guard, causing several individuals to fall to the floor inside the bus. In total, 14 people sustained injuries during the incident. Of these, five passengers required immediate medical attention and were transported to a hospital via ambulance. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.
Following the incident, the driver of the Tiguan continued their journey without stopping, leaving the scene of the accident. The police are now actively searching for this driver and the vehicle involved.
Damage to the Bus and Traffic Disruptions
The public transit bus also sustained damage estimated to be in the four-figure euro range as a result of the emergency braking. The accident and subsequent police investigation caused significant traffic disruptions on Lindwurmstraße. During the accident response, only one lane was open for inbound traffic, leading to considerable traffic jams and delays in the area.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The Munich Police Department is urging anyone who witnessed the accident or can provide relevant information about the Tiguan driver or vehicle to come forward. Witnesses are asked to contact the accident command unit at Tegernseer Landstraße 210 in Munich, or call the police at 089 6216-3322. The police are particularly interested in any details that could help identify the hit-and-run driver.
This incident highlights the importance of attentive driving and the legal obligation to remain at the scene of an accident, especially when injuries occur. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events of that Friday and bring the responsible party to justice.
