Munich, February 4 – The adventurous chicken Henrietta, who made headlines last week after being found at Munich Central Station, has safely returned to her owner in Moosach. The puzzling journey of the feathered friend from her home to the city center has now been revealed.

Henrietta’s Unnoticed Trip to the City Center

Henrietta’s owner in Moosach was reunited with her beloved hen on Tuesday afternoon, four days after her unexpected city excursion. Gerhard Wendl of the Olching Bird Emergency Service, who cared for Henrietta during her absence, confirmed the happy reunion. The SWR was the first to report on the story.

The mystery of how Henrietta traveled from Moosach to the central station has been solved: “The chicken has a quirk,” said Wendl. “Whenever a delivery van is parked near them, Henrietta always gets into the car, wanting to ride along.” While drivers had previously noticed the adventurous hen, last Friday Henrietta managed to sneak aboard unnoticed, traveling as a stowaway to Munich Central Station.

Rescue by Federal Police and a Night in the Station

According to the Federal Police, Henrietta was found wandering ownerless at the station exit by a passerby, who then took her to the lost and found office. Railway employees subsequently informed the Federal Police.

The officers affectionately named the chicken Henrietta and reported the find to Gerhard Wendl of the Olching Bird Emergency Service. Wendl provided the federal police officers with tips on how to best care for the hen overnight. The officers fed Henrietta oats and allowed her to spend the night in a quiet room.

A Happy Reunion Thanks to Many Helpers

On Saturday, the Federal Police brought Henrietta to Wendl’s sanctuary in Olching, in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck. On Monday, Henrietta’s owner contacted Wendl. Before the runaway hen was handed over, Henrietta’s identity was confirmed through photo comparison. “The photo evidence was clear, and the chicken and the lady have a very close bond; you could tell they knew each other,” Wendl recounted.

Henrietta is reportedly in good health, according to Wendl: “She laid an egg with the police and also laid an egg with me.” Her owner plans to be even more vigilant in the future, having put up a large sign that reads: “Please close the door, otherwise the chicken will get into the car.”

This incident highlights the unexpected adventures that can unfold in a bustling city and the heartwarming efforts of individuals and authorities to ensure the well-being of even the smallest city dwellers.
