Berlin, December 22, 2025 – Berlin police are facing a perplexing case after a 52-year-old man was discovered deceased in the cellar of a residential building in the Kreuzberg district. The discovery, made in the early hours of Saturday, August 9th, has led to a homicide investigation, with authorities appealing to the public for assistance in shedding light on the mysterious circumstances.

Body Discovered in Mittenwalder Straße Cellar

According to current information, a witness found the lifeless 52-year-old man at approximately 1:40 AM in the cellar of a house on Mittenwalder Straße. Responding officers could not rule out a homicide upon finding the deceased, prompting the 7th Homicide Division to take over the investigation.

The police are now seeking information from the public. They are asking: “Who made suspicious observations or findings in the vicinity of Mittenwalder Straße 4 (between Blücherstraße and Gneisenaustraße) last night before 1:40 AM?” Any information can be provided to the officers of the State Criminal Police Office at Keithstraße 30, 10787 Berlin-Tiergarten, by calling (030) 4664-911777, via email at [email protected], or at any other police station.

Separate Incident: Axe Attack in Großbeerenstraße

Just hours later, in the same district, emergency services were called to another alarming incident. At approximately 7:00 AM, a 72-year-old woman reportedly attacked her sleeping 74-year-old husband with an axe in their apartment in a multi-family building on Großbeerenstraße. The senior then allegedly attempted to injure herself with a knife.

Both individuals were transported to hospitals for inpatient treatment by emergency responders. Fortunately, neither person is believed to be in life-threatening condition. The public prosecutor’s office and the 1st Homicide Division have taken over further investigations on suspicion of attempted homicide.
