Berlin-Mitte, September 15 – An e-scooter and an election poster were deliberately set on fire in the Moabit district of Berlin-Mitte on Monday evening. Police and fire department officials responded to the incident, which occurred around 6:30 PM on Berlichingenstrasse. No injuries were reported, but both items sustained significant damage.

Witnesses Alert Authorities to Blaze

According to police reports, a witness alerted emergency services to the fire. Another passerby had also noticed the flames and reportedly attempted to extinguish the fire by knocking over the e-scooter, but without success. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly brought the small fire under control, extinguishing both the burning e-scooter and an election poster located nearby.

Significant Damage to Property

The e-scooter was severely damaged by the flames, while the election poster was almost completely destroyed. Authorities have confirmed that no individuals were harmed during the incident.

State Security Department Leads Investigation

The investigation into the incident has been taken over by the State Security Department of the State Criminal Police Office. While the exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, the involvement of the State Security Department suggests that authorities are considering the possibility of politically motivated arson, given the involvement of an election poster.

This incident adds to a series of recent events in the capital. Other recent police reports from Berlin on September 14, 2026, include:

  • A missing person case in Berlin-Mitte, where police are seeking public assistance.

  • An individual in Berlin Tempelhof-Schöneberg was injured by a punch.
  • Multiple injuries were reported in Berlin-Neukölln following a traffic accident involving a BVG bus on September 13, 2026.
