Election Posters Vandalized Across Berlin Ahead of Abgeordnetenhaus Election
Berlin, August 24 – Just four weeks before the election for the Berlin House of Representatives (Abgeordnetenhaus), multiple election posters were once again damaged and destroyed across the city this past weekend. The police are investigating several incidents of vandalism and arson.
Vandalism Incidents Reported Across Berlin
On Saturday afternoon, a 54-year-old woman in Schöneberg was reported to have torn down a poster belonging to a small socialist party, according to police. This incident was followed by further acts of vandalism overnight into Sunday.
In Reinickendorf, a witness reported to the police that a man and a woman removed an AfD poster from a street light. Later, in Charlottenburg, a man was observed kicking a street lamp and setting an SPD poster on fire. By the time emergency services arrived, the fire had already extinguished itself.
The State Security Department of the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is investigating all three of these cases. These incidents are not isolated; in the early hours of Saturday morning, two men in Berlin-Spandau had already set two AfD election posters on fire.

The damage and destruction of election posters is a recurring issue in Berlin during election campaigns. Authorities frequently deal with such acts of vandalism, which are considered criminal offenses.
