Munich, December 23 – In response to persistently high demand, EVA Air, a Star Alliance member, will upgrade its Munich to Taipei route by deploying larger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft starting April 22, 2026. This strategic move aims to accommodate a growing number of passengers, particularly in its premium cabins, and enhance the overall travel experience from Munich Airport.
Increased Capacity and Enhanced Premium Offerings
The new Boeing 777-300ER, with a capacity for up to 392 passengers, will replace the current Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner, which accommodates up to 330 passengers. This change marks a significant increase in available seats, reflecting the strong market demand for the route connecting Bavaria’s largest airport with the international hub of Taipei.
A key highlight of this upgrade is the substantial increase in premium seating. The Boeing 777-300ER will double the seat availability in the Premium Economy Class, offering either 56 or 64 seats depending on the specific configuration within EVA Air’s 777 fleet. This positions EVA Air as a leading carrier for Premium Economy options on the Munich-Taipei route. Furthermore, the Royal Laurel Class (Business Class) will see a 50 percent increase in capacity, providing more luxury travel options for passengers.
Sustained High Demand Drives Expansion
Willy Lo, General Manager of EVA Air Germany, cited the consistently high load factors in the Premium Economy Class as the primary driver for this decision. “Since May 2025, the Premium Economy Class has maintained an occupancy rate of over 95 percent,” Lo stated. “Therefore, we are meeting this high demand by deploying the Boeing B777-300ER four times a week.”
The move underscores the growing importance of Munich Airport as a gateway to Asia. From Taipei, passengers can connect to numerous other destinations across the Asian continent, making the route a crucial link for business and leisure travelers alike. Munich Airport itself is experiencing a busy period, with nearly two million passengers expected during the Christmas travel season until early January, and numerous flights planned for the upcoming year.
Munich Airport’s Continued Growth
This development follows a period of significant activity at Munich Airport, which recently welcomed a new airline from the Middle East just before Christmas. The airport, the second largest in Germany, continues to expand its international connectivity and enhance its services to meet the evolving needs of global travelers.
The deployment of the larger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft by EVA Air is a testament to the robust and sustained demand for air travel between Europe and Asia, and it signals a positive outlook for future growth and connectivity at Munich Airport.
