Fatal Workplace Accident in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld: 30-Year-Old Run Over by Wheel Loader

Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, June 19 – A 30-year-old man died in a fatal workplace accident in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 1:23 PM on a company premises on Lederstraße, where the man was struck by a wheel loader. The vehicle was being operated by a 31-year-old colleague at the time of the accident.

Immediate Response and Investigations Underway

Despite immediate rescue efforts, the 30-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene. According to information obtained by WELT, the tragic event took place at the site of Otto Dörner, a waste disposal and recycling company. The Crisis Intervention Team (KIT) of the German Red Cross was on-site to provide psychological support to witnesses.

Investigations are being conducted by the specialist unit for workplace accidents within the State Criminal Police Office (LKA 45). The specialist unit for death investigations (LKA 414) is also involved. The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are currently unclear.

Third Fatal Workplace Accident in Hamburg This Year

This incident marks the third fatal workplace accident in Hamburg since the beginning of the year, raising concerns about workplace safety in the city.

Previous Fatal Incidents

  • Early March: A 42-year-old man died in an industrial company in the Veddel district. The incident involved an explosion during work on a hot boiler with liquid metal on Hovestraße, causing his forklift to catch fire. The man was recovered deceased from the driver’s cabin. The KIT also provided support to witnesses, and LKA 45 investigated this case.
  • February: A 58-year-old construction worker fell approximately five meters from scaffolding at a construction site on Steendammswisch in Niendorf. He sustained life-threatening head injuries and later died in the hospital despite resuscitation efforts by firefighters and paramedics. The cause of this accident also remains undetermined. In addition to LKA 45, employees from the Office for Building and High-Rise Construction were involved in the investigation.

The recurring nature of these tragic events underscores the importance of thorough investigations and potential reviews of safety protocols in workplaces across Hamburg. Authorities are working to determine the precise causes of each accident to prevent future fatalities.
