Munich (dpa) – The acquisition of the Sportpark Unterhaching by FC Bayern Munich is reportedly nearing completion. Media reports suggest that the German record-holding football club will become the owner of the stadium, located in a municipality south of Munich, starting January 1, 2026. The 1992-built stadium is then expected to host the FC Bayern Munich women’s football team.
Official Confirmation Awaited
On Wednesday evening, the Haching municipal council unanimously approved the sale of the Sportpark to Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH, a subsidiary of FC Bayern, during a non-public meeting. Both parties are expected to make a public statement after the notarization, which is scheduled for next week. The purchase price is estimated to be around 7.25 million euros.
A new stadium for Bayern’s women’s team has been a long-standing topic. Currently, the team plays at the FC Bayern campus, where the stadium has a capacity of only 2,500 spectators. Occasionally, the women’s team also plays at the Allianz Arena, which can accommodate 75,000 spectators. However, this stadium is considered too large for regular matches.
Existing Cooperation with SpVgg Unterhaching
For the Munich women’s footballers, who secured a championship and cup double last season, the move could lead to generally improved conditions. High-stakes matches at the Allianz Arena would still be possible.
The Sportpark Unterhaching offers space for approximately 15,000 fans. Currently, the local regional club plays at the Sportpark Unterhaching. Given the strategic youth partnership between FC Bayern and SpVgg Unterhaching, a solution for the city of Unterhaching is expected to be found regarding SpVgg’s continued use of the Sportpark, even after its acquisition by Germany’s top club. SpVgg did not exercise its right of first refusal.
