Federal Government Allocates 3.6 Million Euros for Munich Sports Facilities Renovation

Munich, April 23 – Good news for Munich’s athletes: The federal government is providing financial support for sports facilities! The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag yesterday approved a total of 333 million euros in the first funding round of the “Renovation of Municipal Sports Facilities” program. Of this, 3.6 million euros will go to four projects in Munich.

Due to the high number of applications, many sports facilities did not receive funding. However, these four were fortunate:

  • Lerchenauer Straße Artificial Turf Pitches: 550,000 euros for renovation.
  • Bert-Brecht-Allee District Sports Facility: 680,917 euros.
  • MTV 1879 Munich: 1.84 million euros, partly for expansion.
  • Aubinger Straße Outdoor Sports Facilities: 550,000 euros.

Jamila Schäfer (Greens, Munich-South constituency), a member of the Budget Committee, expressed her satisfaction: “I am very pleased that we can financially support the renovation of four Munich sports facilities. In clubs and on sports fields, people come together and spend time with each other. This is a great support for the many volunteers in sports clubs.”

Wolfgang Stefinger (CSU), MP for the Munich-East constituency, added: “Many sports facilities are getting old – we are now creating noticeable improvements here.”

The funding aims to address the aging infrastructure of many local sports venues, ensuring better conditions for training and competitions across various disciplines. The improvements are expected to benefit both professional athletes and grassroots sports, encouraging greater community participation in physical activities.

The decision underscores the federal government’s commitment to promoting sports and active lifestyles by providing essential financial backing for facility upgrades. While many other projects did not secure funding in this round, the selected Munich facilities represent a significant investment in the city’s sporting future.

The renovation work is expected to commence in the near future, with project timelines to be announced by the respective facility managements. These upgrades are crucial for maintaining high standards in sports infrastructure and supporting the continued growth of sports clubs and associations in Munich.
