Berlin, December 11 – Free2move, the mobility service provider from the Stellantis group, has expanded its offering in Germany by launching a pilot program for van sharing in Berlin. For the first time, large Opel Movano L2H2 vans are available for car-sharing, with the aim of assessing the viability of larger commercial vehicles in urban sharing environments. The initiative is set to expand to other cities in 2026 if successful.
Opel Movano L2H2 Joins Free2move Fleet in Berlin
Berlin has been strategically chosen as the initial testing ground for this new service, primarily due to its dynamic urban environment and frequent demand for moving and transport solutions. Users can now book the Opel Movano L2H2 panel van directly through the Free2move app.
The XL variant of the Movano offers a substantial cargo volume of up to 17 cubic meters, a payload capacity of two tons, and the ability to tow trailers weighing up to three tons. This makes it suitable for a wide range of tasks, from residential moves to transporting large goods.
Digital Booking and Flexible Pricing
Booking the Opel Movano is a fully digital process, managed entirely via the Free2move mobile application. Unlike the minute-by-minute billing typical for smaller car-sharing vehicles, the van-sharing service operates on an hourly or daily rate. A full day’s rental is priced at 99.99 Euros, offering a cost-effective solution for longer-term needs.
Free2move’s primary objective with this pilot is to evaluate user adoption and overall demand for larger utility vehicles within a car-sharing framework. The company will closely monitor the program’s performance and gather feedback from users to refine the service.
Expansion Plans for 2026
Following the Berlin pilot, Free2move plans to introduce the Movano-sharing service to Cologne and Düsseldorf in early January. Should these initial tests prove successful, the company intends to roll out the offering nationwide across Germany by 2026.
This move represents a significant step for Free2move in diversifying its mobility solutions and addressing the growing need for flexible, on-demand access to commercial vehicles in urban areas. The success of this pilot could pave the way for similar services in other European markets.
The introduction of the Opel Movano into the Free2move fleet underscores Stellantis’ commitment to innovation in urban mobility and its strategy to provide a comprehensive range of transportation options to consumers.
