German Girls Shine in U13 at WTT Youth Contender Berlin
Berlin, March 15, 2026 – German table tennis talents Kristin Tuve and Dana Haspel delivered an impressive performance at the WTT Youth Contender Berlin (March 9-15), clinching gold and silver in the U13 girls’ singles category. This success marks a strong start to the second phase of the tournament for Germany’s female contingent, following Samuel Grandy’s bronze medal in the U13 boys’ competition earlier in the week. The final decisions in the U11, U15, and U19 age groups are scheduled for today, Sunday.
U13: Gold and Silver for Tuve and Haspel
The U13 category saw a dominant display from the German team. Kristin Tuve from Lower Saxony emerged victorious, securing the gold medal, while Dana Haspel from Baden-Württemberg earned the silver. Another German player, Mira Petereit, also reached the quarterfinals. Tuve navigated a challenging quarterfinal against national team colleague Mira Petereit from Brandenburg, winning in four sets. She then proceeded to defeat Carmen Gomez of Spain with a 3:1 scoreline in the semifinals. Haspel’s path to the final included a 3:1 victory over Lola Uria, followed by a straight-sets win against another Spanish opponent, Julia Fernandez. The all-German final between Tuve and Haspel was a closely contested affair, with Tuve ultimately prevailing 11:9, 6:11, 11:9, and 11:7 to claim the title.
U17: Limited German Representation in the Round of 16
In the U17 age group, only one German player, Elisa Nguyen, managed to reach the round of 16. The Baden-Württemberg native was defeated by South Korea’s Seo Eyeong in four sets, after winning an internal German duel against Lotta Rothfuß. Two other German players, Lisa Wang and Amelie Jia, participated in the first round but were eliminated. Wang lost to South Korea’s Lee Eunyu, while Jia, despite holding a 2:0 lead, was unable to overcome Margaux Rouet of France. The U17 title was ultimately claimed by China’s Jiang Yiyi, who secured a decisive victory over Loi Ming Ying from Singapore.
