Hamburg Car Dealer Faces Court Over Luxury Car Fraud Allegations

Hamburg, June 23 – A 46-year-old man from Hamburg is currently standing trial at the Hamburg-Mitte district court on charges of commercial fraud. The dealer is accused of selling luxury cars and failing to deliver them to buyers, an alleged pattern of behavior that is not new for him. The trial commenced on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Bulgarian Man Allegedly Defrauded of 67,000 Euros

One of the cases brought against the defendant involves a man from Bulgaria who was allegedly defrauded of approximately 67,000 Euros in a simulated car purchase in Hamburg. According to the indictment, the victim discovered an advertisement for a white Mercedes G-Class for sale online, placed by a Hamburg car dealer. The advertised price was 67,000 Euros.

The Bulgarian man promptly initiated contact with the seller. Following several days of online communication, the interested buyer booked a flight and traveled to Hamburg with the intention of purchasing the white Mercedes and driving it back to Bulgaria. However, the victim recounted to the district court that he spent three days in Hamburg waiting in vain.

Victim Waited for Car, Contract, and License Plates

During his time in Hamburg, the Bulgarian man reportedly waited first for the seller, then for the purchase contract, and finally for temporary red license plates that would allow him to drive the vehicle. Despite his efforts, he never received the car. The witness stated that he has been waiting for more than four years for the return of the 67,000 Euros he paid.

The 46-year-old defendant chose to remain silent on the first day of the trial. He is also facing charges in three other similar cases involving alleged fraud.

Previous Incidents and Related Cases

This trial comes amidst other recent legal actions concerning luxury car theft and fraud in the region:

  • Theft of Luxury Cars: Two men from Lithuania were previously sentenced to seven and nearly five years in prison, respectively, for stealing several luxury cars in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony.
  • Process Against Suspects: These men were accused of scouting expensive SUVs, equipping them with GPS transmitters, and then stealing them from suitable locations.
  • Police Crackdown on Car Theft Rings: The investigative unit “Panthera” has been specifically targeting luxury car thieves, recently dismantling three such rings.

The current trial against the Hamburg car dealer highlights ongoing efforts to combat automotive fraud and theft in the region, ensuring that justice is served for victims of such crimes.

The court proceedings are expected to continue as investigations into the various fraud allegations unfold.
