Hamburg, April 13 – Germany is set to experience a nationwide crackdown on speeding as the ‘Speedweek’ officially commences today, April 13. All federal states, with the exception of Saarland, are participating in this initiative to enhance road safety through increased traffic controls. In Hamburg, police have confirmed that targeted speed checks will be conducted on Wednesday, April 15, as part of this concerted effort.
Increased Controls to Target Speeding Drivers
The Hamburg police department announced its plans to significantly increase the number of speed controls throughout the city on Wednesday. This intensified enforcement aims to deter drivers from exceeding speed limits, a common cause of accidents. Drivers caught speeding can expect hefty fines as authorities emphasize the financial consequences of traffic violations.
“Anyone who drives too fast must expect to run into a speed camera – that can be expensive,” a police spokesperson stated, underscoring the serious approach being taken during ‘Speedweek’.
Focus on Sensitive Areas and Major Roads
The controls will be strategically placed in areas deemed particularly vulnerable. Police will be monitoring speeds around schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and construction sites to ensure the safety of pedestrians and workers. A recent survey of German cities revealed that Hamburg generates the highest revenue from speeding fines among all German cities.
