Hamburg Gears Up for 837th Port Anniversary: A Spectacle of Ships, Music, and Fireworks

Hamburg, Germany – From May 8 to 10, 2026, Hamburg will host its 837th Port Anniversary, a grand celebration that promises a diverse program of events, including impressive ship parades, live musical performances, and a spectacular firework display. The event is expected to draw numerous visitors to the city’s harbor.

The annual Hamburg Port Anniversary, a highlight in the city’s calendar, will feature the traditional arrival and departure parades, the unique tugboat ballet, and various shows on a floating stage. Many vessels will also offer “Open Ship” tours, allowing visitors to explore them up close. The event will officially kick off with the Grand Entry Parade on May 8, starting at 1:30 PM.

“Elbe in Concert” Features Patrice and Deine Freunde

This year’s “Elbe in Concert” will feature a lineup of renowned artists. On Friday evening, reggae star Patrice Bart-Williams is set to perform on the floating stage in front of the Landungsbrücken, alongside the band Deine Freunde and singer Christoph Sakwerda. Saturday evening will see DJ and musician Topic, and newcomer Baumgart from Dortmund, taking the stage.

Over 160 Ships Expected to Participate

More than 160 ships from around the world have confirmed their participation in the Port Anniversary. Among them is the colossal cruise ship “MSC Preziosa,” measuring 333 meters in length, which is expected to arrive at the Cruise Center Steinwerder on Sunday.

Three research vessels will also be on display: the “Atair” from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), used for wreck detection, which can be visited at the Landungsbrücken; the “Vektor” from the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics; and the “Coriolis” from the Helmholtz Centre Hereon, dedicated to environmental research.

Historical tall ships will also grace the harbor, including the Norwegian three-masted bark “Statsraad Lemkuhl,” one of the world’s largest sailing ships at 98 meters, which will be docked at the Landungsbrücken. The historic “Peking” will also be present, with a shuttle service available from the Landungsbrücken to Bremer Hafen (Hansakai) for visitors.

NDR to Provide Extensive Live Coverage

NDR will offer comprehensive live coverage of the world’s largest port festival, including broadcasts from the stage program at the Landungsbrücken.

Visitors can expect an international flair and British zest for life.

Vibrant Harbor Mile with Culinary Delights

Between Baumwall and Landungsbrücken, a colorful harbor mile will offer various culinary specialties, including fish sandwiches, grilled sausages, vegetarian dishes, and sweet treats. The numerous stalls will be open from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM on Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Sunday. Additionally, several vantage points throughout the city offer excellent views of the ships.
