School Cone Donation Drive at Hofbräuhaus: Ensuring Every Child Has a Good Start
As the summer holidays in Bavaria draw to a close, thousands of children in Munich are preparing for their first day of school on September 15, 2026. A well-filled school cone, brimming with pens, notebooks, pencil cases, and paint boxes, is an essential part of this milestone. However, school supplies can be expensive, and not every family can afford these costs. This is where the ‘Bunte Münchner Kindl’ project steps in.
The ‘Bunte Münchner Kindl’ Project: Promoting Equal Opportunities Since 2016
The ‘Bunte Münchner Kindl’ project, under the patronage of Petra Reiter (wife of former Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter), has been dedicated to ensuring that all schoolchildren are well-equipped for their lessons since the 2016/17 school year. Annually, the project supports up to 2,000 needy children with quality school materials, thereby promoting equal opportunities in education.
As Petra Reiter emphasizes, “Proper school material is the cornerstone for a successful school career. With this, we want to avoid exclusion from the first to the last day of school, promote integration, and enable educational justice. We help children whose parents can hardly afford or cannot afford basic school equipment, regardless of their social status, origin, or gender.”
The foundation receives no state funding and relies entirely on donations for its initiatives, including the current “School Cones for All!” campaign.
How You Can Help: Donate School Cones or Supplies
Everyone can contribute to this important cause. Filled school cones or individual items (such as colored pencils, playdough, crayons, small books, notebooks, card games, hair clips, or non-melting sweets) can be dropped off at the Hofbräuhaus.
- When: Monday, September 7th, to Saturday, September 12th, 2026, from 11 AM to 5 PM daily.
- Where: Reservations Office of the Hofbräuhaus, Platzl 9 (1st floor), Munich.
Monetary donations are also welcome. These funds are used to purchase urgently needed school materials, which are then packed into school cones or school bags by volunteers. The project supports not only first-graders but also needy children in higher grades with necessary school supplies. Donations of used but good condition school bags, notebooks, paint boxes, and pencil cases are also greatly appreciated.
Information for Teachers and Volunteers
The foundation receives information about what students need for their lessons from numerous teachers. Teachers who know of a child who does not yet have a school cone can contact the ‘Bunte Münchner Kindl’ project.
