Hamburg, December 24 – The Jehovah’s Witnesses community in Hamburg-Alsterdorf is set to reclaim its meeting hall on Deelböge, nearly three years after a tragic shooting incident. Renovation work on the building commenced in early December, with an anticipated completion date in early April 2026, according to a spokesperson for the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Tragic Incident in March 2023
The decision to renovate and reopen the hall follows a devastating event in March 2023, when a 35-year-old former member of the community forced his way into the building. The assailant fatally shot seven individuals before taking his own life. Additionally, eleven other people sustained injuries during the attack, as reported by the public prosecutor’s office.
Renovation Underway
The renovation efforts, which started at the beginning of December, aim to restore the building and provide a safe space for the community once again. The “Hamburger Abendblatt” was the first to report on these developments. The extensive work is projected to last approximately four months, with the hall expected to be ready for use by early April of the coming year.
The return to the Deelböge hall signifies a significant step towards healing and rebuilding for the Jehovah’s Witnesses community in Hamburg, allowing members to resume their activities in a familiar and dedicated space.
