Munich Dances into the Morning: Kocherlball Delights 12,000 Early Risers
Munich, July 20, 2026 – Only in Munich can you find such a blend of romance, tradition, and dance at 6 AM! Around 12,000 excited visitors transformed the area around the Chinese Tower in the English Garden into a massive dance stage filled with joy, traditional costumes, and Bavarian hospitality during the annual Kocherlball.
Once again, the weather gods were kind: precisely at 6 AM, the first dance enthusiasts streamed to the traditional Kocherlball – and from the very first minute, it was clear: this would be an unforgettable morning!
The Dance Floor Fills Quickly
Hardly had dance masters Katharina Mayer and Markus Kaindl demonstrated the first Landler and Boarische dances, the dance floor filled up in no time. Young and old alike swayed to the captivating sounds of the Niederbayerischer Musikantenstammtisch and the Schreinergeiger, who took turns ensuring a lively atmosphere. Even a few raindrops couldn’t dampen the exuberant mood – at the Kocherlball, faces were radiant regardless.
The early bird dances: The first guests arrived at the beer garden as early as 3 AM to secure the coveted spots. By 4 AM, the entire area was already full. Most visitors came in classic traditional attire, but many also appeared authentically dressed in Kocherl, gardener, or chambermaid costumes – just as in the origins of the historic festival.
Youth Embrace Tradition
It was particularly delightful to see more young Munich residents than ever before demonstrating that folk dance is anything but outdated. The popular dance workshops organized by the Department of Arts and Culture were once again a great success, preparing numerous aspiring dancers for the big morning at the Tower.
There was also great joy for hostess Antje Haberl, her son Luis Haberl, and the entire team. Employees had been working since midnight to prepare tables, arrange fine snacks, and provide drinks for the many Kocherlball fans.
