Hamburg, December 12 – In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Le Méridien Hamburg hotel hosted its inaugural Christmas celebration for homeless individuals in the St. Georg district. The event, which took place on December 7th, welcomed approximately 50 guests to a festive evening of warmth, food, and camaraderie.
A Collaborative Effort for Community Support
The initiative was a joint effort by the St. Georg Citizens’ Association, in collaboration with the local church community, the St. Georg Soup Group, and the Le Méridien Hamburg hotel. This partnership aimed to provide a welcoming and dignified space for those experiencing homelessness during the holiday season.
Markus Schreiber, Chairman of the Citizens’ Association, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “We wanted to create a place where our guests feel welcome. The fact that Le Méridien so readily opened its doors to us demonstrates a true connection to the district.”
Festive Atmosphere and Thoughtful Gestures
The hotel’s festively decorated ballroom offered guests a sheltered and warm environment to experience the Advent season together. Executive Chef Patrick Weber and his team prepared a delicious three-course meal, featuring pea soup, goulash, and apple sheet cake, complemented by coffee. To conclude the evening, each guest received a small gift, thoughtfully assembled by the Citizens’ Association.
Hotel Director Till Westheuser echoed the sentiment, stating, “For us, it was clear: people without a permanent home, especially, deserve warmth and appreciation during this time. Hosting this celebration together was a great concern for us.”
Positive Feedback and Hopes for Future Events
Supported by numerous volunteers, the celebration was described as an evening filled with meaningful encounters, tranquility, and pre-Christmas fellowship. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from all participants has already sparked discussions about making this an annual tradition.
“We can well imagine making the celebration a permanent institution,” added Markus Schreiber, indicating a strong desire to continue this impactful event in the future. The success of this first-time event highlights the community’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members and fostering a sense of belonging during the holiday season.
