Aachen Man Arrested on Murder Charges in Munich After Fatal Assault

Munich, Bavaria, Germany – A 21-year-old man from the Aachen region has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a 45-year-old Macedonian man in Munich. The arrest, made on Wednesday, February 19, 2026, follows an incident in late January where the victim was allegedly assaulted and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The Munich police announced the arrest at a press conference today, February 20, 2026, stating that the suspect is now in pre-trial detention. He is accused of striking the 45-year-old man in the head, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim died days later.

Incident Followed a Pub Visit

According to current investigations, the incident occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Munich police were alerted to an unconscious person by a witness, who reported an assault. The victim, a 45-year-old family man, and the then-unknown assailant, along with their respective companions, encountered each other outside a pub in Munich city centre.

The suspect allegedly punched the victim in the head without warning before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim was taken to the hospital, where his condition deteriorated in the following days, leading to his death.

Suspect Identified as Martial Arts Practitioner

Extensive investigations led to the identification of the 21-year-old from the Aachen region as the primary suspect. He was subsequently arrested and is now in investigative custody.

During the press conference, police and public prosecutors in Munich revealed that the man is a supporter of the football club Alemannia Aachen and has a nationwide stadium ban. The incident occurred on a weekend when Alemannia Aachen had a league match against 1860 Munich. However, a police spokesperson emphasized that the assault was unrelated to the football match.

The suspect is reported to have practiced martial arts since childhood. The public prosecutor in Munich stated that, given his background, the suspect must have been aware of the potential impact of his blows. Due to the treacherous nature of the act and the low motives, the charge is murder, which could lead to a life sentence if convicted. The investigation is ongoing, and Munich police are still seeking additional witnesses to the incident.

The police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has any information regarding the events of January 31, 2026, to come forward.
