Berlin, February 7 – A man who allegedly caused a disturbance in a Berlin swimming pool yesterday afternoon led police on a nine-kilometer chase in a stolen gritting vehicle. The pursuit, which began in Marzahn and ended in Friedrichshain, resulted in the closure of Frankfurter Allee for several hours.
Disturbance at Freizeitforum Marzahn Swimming Pool
According to reports from the “B.Z.”, the incident began at the swimming pool of the Freizeitforum Marzahn. The man is alleged to have harassed bathers and destroyed a window. Employees reportedly called the police around 1 p.m.
Upon the arrival of officers, the suspect fled the swimming pool and jumped into an unlocked gritting vehicle, which apparently had its keys left inside. A police spokesperson told the “B.Z.” that the vehicle thief caused several traffic accidents and sped through red lights and over green spaces during his escape.

The unusual chase covered approximately nine kilometers, stretching from Marzahn to Friedrichshain. The suspect, driving the stolen gritting vehicle, reportedly drove recklessly, causing multiple traffic incidents along the way.
Police finally managed to stop the fleeing man at Frankfurter Tor in Friedrichshain. “According to initial findings, no one was injured,” a police spokesperson stated, as quoted by the “B.Z.”.
Frankfurter Allee Closed After Incident
Frankfurter Allee in the direction of the city center was closed until shortly after 4 p.m. due to the incident. The stolen vehicle was found facing against the direction of traffic. Police are currently investigating whether the driver intentionally drove into oncoming traffic or if the vehicle turned around as a result of an accident.
The exact cause of the initial disturbance at the swimming pool and the circumstances surrounding the theft of the gritting vehicle are still under investigation. Further details are expected to be released as the police investigation progresses.
