According to the Hamburg police, a quick-thinking employee of a harbor ferry witnessed the fall and immediately jumped into the Elbe. The ferry worker managed to reach the young man and keep him above water using a lifebuoy, preventing him from being swept away by the current.
Rescue by Customs Boat
Fortuitously, a customs boat was passing by the scene at the time of the incident. The crew of the customs boat quickly responded to the situation, taking the 19-year-old man on board. He was then transported to a hospital for medical evaluation.
