Police immediately cordoned off Karl-Marx-Straße between Thomasstraße and Werbellinstraße. Forensic technicians from the LKA were on site to collect evidence, and a shell casing was found on the pavement, according to a police spokesperson. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang.
