Munich, August 24 – A 48-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after reportedly threatening several pedestrians with a knife in the vicinity of Sendlinger Tor Square in Munich’s Old Town. The incident prompted a significant police response, though no injuries were reported.

Emergency Call Initiates Police Response

The Munich Police Headquarters’ operations center received a report at approximately 00:10 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, detailing a male individual threatening passersby with a knife and making stabbing motions. Multiple police patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Suspect Apprehended, No Knife Found

Upon arrival, officers located the 48-year-old suspect, who holds both Norwegian and Ecuadorian citizenship and is without a permanent residence in Germany. Police officers addressed the individual and, using their firearms, directed him to the ground before taking him into custody. A subsequent search of the man did not yield a knife.

Despite the threatening behavior, no individuals were harmed during the incident.

Aggressive Behavior Leads to Detention

The 48-year-old was transported to a police station. He faces charges of making threats and was required to pay a security deposit in a three-digit amount. Due to his aggressive demeanor, he remained in custody until Monday morning.
