Munich, May 23 – A 35-year-old man was apprehended by federal police on Thursday evening near Munich Central Station after he threw a burning firework into a crowd of waiting pedestrians. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 PM, is now under investigation for attempted dangerous bodily harm.

Incident Unfolds Near Bayerstrasse Exit

Officers from the Federal Police Inspectorate Munich observed the man igniting a firework at the Bayerstrasse exit and then throwing it towards a group of people waiting at a traffic light. The firework exploded immediately next to the group, causing several individuals to startle and jump aside. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no affected individuals came forward to the police.

Suspect Identified and Detained

The federal police promptly intervened and detained the 35-year-old suspect. A voluntary breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 2.2 per mille. Authorities confirmed that the man is known to the police due to previous offenses. Following the incident, the Munich I public prosecutor’s office ordered that the suspect be brought before a magistrate on Friday.

Investigation for Attempted Dangerous Bodily Harm

The Federal Police have launched an investigation against the 35-year-old for attempted dangerous bodily harm. While no one was physically harmed in the incident, the act of throwing an ignited firework into a crowd carries significant risks and is being treated with seriousness by the authorities.

Public Safety Concerns Addressed

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety in busy urban areas. The swift response of the federal police ensured the immediate apprehension of the suspect, preventing any further potential harm. The presence of highly intoxicated individuals in public spaces, especially near transport hubs, remains a challenge for law enforcement.

Legal Proceedings Underway

The suspect’s appearance before a magistrate is a standard procedure in such cases, allowing for a judicial review of the evidence and a decision on whether to issue an arrest warrant. The investigation will aim to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate legal consequences for the accused.

Community Impact and Awareness

While the immediate impact of this event was limited to shock and alarm among the pedestrians, such incidents can contribute to a sense of insecurity in public spaces. Authorities continue to urge vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.

The federal police will continue their diligent work to maintain order and security, particularly in high-traffic areas such as the Munich Central Station, which serves as a vital transportation hub for both residents and visitors.
