Munich, March 1 – A Nahkauf supermarket located on Werner-Egk-Bogen in Munich’s Freimann district was the scene of an armed robbery on Saturday evening, February 28. Two masked perpetrators, one reportedly armed with a handgun, forced three employees to surrender over 5,000 Euros in cash before escaping. Despite an extensive police operation involving a helicopter and drone, the suspects remain at large.
Armed Robbery Unfolds as Employees Prepare to Close
The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 PM as the last three employees of the Nahkauf branch were closing for the night. One male employee, taking out the trash, was intercepted by two masked men near the waste containers. As he attempted to re-enter the supermarket, the suspects brandished a firearm and forced him back inside.
Once inside, the two other female colleagues were also confronted by the armed robbers. Under threat of the weapon, the employees were compelled to hand over the cash from the tills. The perpetrators successfully absconded with more than 5,000 Euros.
Extensive Police Search Yields No Immediate Arrests
Following the initial shock, one of the employees reportedly alerted emergency services. The Munich police swiftly launched a large-scale search operation, deploying up to 20 patrol cars, a police helicopter, and a police drone. However, the suspects managed to evade capture under the cover of darkness.
Fortunately, all supermarket employees remained physically unharmed during the ordeal. Investigations are currently underway by Precinct 21 to determine the exact nature of the firearm used, as it is still unclear whether it was a live weapon, an imitation, or a blank-firing pistol. Police confirmed that no shots were fired during the robbery.
Suspect Descriptions Released by Authorities
Employees described the masked robbers as appearing quite young. One suspect is estimated to be around 20 years old, approximately 170 cm tall, with a strong build, dark brown eyes, and bushy eyebrows. He spoke clear High German with a deep voice and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jogging pants.
The second suspect appeared even younger, estimated at 19 years old and approximately 185 cm tall, with a slender build. He was reportedly wearing a black scarf, a black bomber jacket, and black trousers, and was identified as the individual who wielded the firearm.
The police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects. Witnesses or individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the police at Tel. 089/29100 or any police station in Munich.
