Munich, July 31, 2026 – Münchner Wohnen has begun construction of a new multi-generational housing complex in Sendling, Munich, a few hundred meters from Harras. Located on a previously undeveloped plot behind the municipal office building at Meindlstraße 12, between Meindlstraße and the railway line, the state capital’s housing association is developing a sustainable project that will house seniors and families. The complex will feature 68 new apartments and a new senior and service center, to be operated by an external provider.
Intergenerational Living and Community Focus
The L-shaped building will allocate 75 percent of its apartments to seniors and 25 percent to families. The primary goal is to promote interaction between different age groups, facilitate mutual support in daily life, and strengthen social connections. The project aims to create a vibrant community where both families and older residents can benefit from shared experiences.
The architectural design actively supports this communal living. Some sections will combine three apartments into a single residential unit with a shared common room. Additionally, certain adjacent apartments offer flexible sizing, allowing a room to be assigned to either apartment as needed, catering to varying requirements over time.
High Ecological Standards and Sustainable Construction
The six-story building is planned with a wood-hybrid construction from the first floor upwards and will feature a green wooden facade. The roof will be extensively greened as a biodiversity roof, and a photovoltaic system will also be installed. The energy standard of the building will meet the EH 40 efficiency house standard, emphasizing a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
“The project in Meindlstraße demonstrates what contemporary social housing can look like,” stated Jörg Franzen, Chairman of the Management Board of Münchner Wohnen. “The housing complex combines aspects that are crucial for the future of living: sustainability, community, and intergenerational cohabitation. Under one roof, not only apartments are being created, but also meeting spaces and offerings for various life stages.”
Completion Expected by End of 2028
Münchner Wohnen anticipates the completion of the complex by the end of 2028. This development is part of a broader effort by the city to address housing needs while promoting social cohesion and environmental responsibility.
