Munich (dpa/lby) – Munich Airport, despite grappling with various operational issues in recent years that tarnished its reputation, has been awarded a prestigious industry accolade. The parent company of the US trade magazine ‘Aviation Week’ named Germany’s second-largest airport as ‘Airport of the Year’ during a gala event held in Lisbon.
A Significant Image Success for Munich Airport
Jost Lammers, the CEO of Munich Airport, hailed the award as a “great recognition for the commitment of our entire team.” This honor is particularly noteworthy given the airport’s recent history of difficulties.
In the summer of 2023, the airport experienced significant problems with lost luggage, and in October 2024, passenger handling was severely hampered. However, operations have returned to normal this year, and this award signals that the aviation industry acknowledges and appreciates the airport’s efforts to overcome these challenges.
Aviation Week Network: A Global Authority
The ‘Aviation Week Network,’ headquartered in New York, is an internationally renowned media company in the aviation sector. It bestows annual awards across multiple categories. This year, the Japanese airline All Nippon Airways (ANA) was recognized as ‘Airline of the Year.’
The recognition of Munich Airport as ‘Airport of the Year’ is a testament to its resilience and the dedication of its staff in improving services and operational efficiency. It marks a significant turnaround for the airport, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global aviation landscape.
