Munich Airport Initiates Exclusive Direct Route to Ajaccio, Corsica

Munich, Bavaria, Germany – Munich Airport has announced the launch of a new, unique direct flight connection to Ajaccio, the capital of the French Mediterranean island of Corsica. This marks the first time a German airport offers a direct scheduled service to this destination, eliminating the need for layovers often required for travel to Ajaccio.

The inaugural flight took place on March 11th, with French airline Air Corsica operating the new route. Flights are scheduled twice weekly, every Thursday and Sunday, utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft. Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted with gingerbread hearts at the gate, celebrating this significant new addition to Munich Airport’s flight schedule.

Expanding Connections: Calvi Added to Corsican Destinations

Further enhancing its offerings to Corsica, Air Corsica will also introduce an additional Sunday connection to Calvi, located on the northwest coast of the island, starting June 28th. This expansion provides even more options for travelers looking to explore the diverse landscapes and rich history of Corsica.

Ajaccio: A City of Art, History, and Natural Beauty

Ajaccio, recognized as a ‘City of Art and History’ by the French Ministry of Culture, is celebrated for its architectural, historical, and cultural heritage. The city is famously the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, with the Bonaparte House being a key historical site. Geographically, Ajaccio offers a stunning blend of coastal beauty and mountainous terrain, providing a picturesque setting for visitors.

Calvi: Beaches, Citadel, and a Columbus Connection

Calvi, another captivating Corsican destination, is renowned for its beautiful beaches and distinctive crescent-shaped bay. The city’s Genoese citadel stands as a prominent historical landmark. Calvi is also steeped in the legend that it might be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, a claim that, while unproven, adds to the city’s allure and local pride.

Beyond Corsica: Munich Airport’s Diverse Destinations

Munich Airport continues to offer a wide array of unique and intriguing destinations worldwide. Travelers can embark on journeys to Muscat on the Indian Ocean, Dushanbe amidst the Central Asian mountains, or the vibrant tropical metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City. In the past year, Dubai emerged as one of the most popular intercontinental destinations from Munich, while London remained a top choice for European travelers.

This new direct connection to Ajaccio underscores Munich Airport’s commitment to expanding its route network and providing travelers with convenient access to a broader range of international destinations. The unique service is expected to boost tourism to Corsica and offer German travelers an unprecedented ease of access to the island’s charms.
