Where to Park for Free at Munich Airport?

You’ve packed your bags, booked your flights, and decided to drive to Munich Airport. But how expensive is it to leave your car at the airport for several days or even weeks? And are there any free parking spaces available?

Free Short-Term Parking at Munich Airport

If you’re just dropping off or picking up someone, you can do so for free at Franz Josef Strauss Airport. In the so-called “Kiss & Fly” zones directly at the terminal, you can stop for up to five minutes free of charge. You can stay a little longer in the Welcome Zone for pick-ups: here, cars can remain for up to ten minutes. Anything beyond that currently costs three euros for every additional ten minutes in both areas. If you plan to stay longer than an hour, you should drive directly into one of the parking garages or underground car parks.

Economy Parking: Affordable but Not Central

Parking costs at Munich Airport depend not only on the duration but also on the area you choose to park in. Economy parking is the most affordable option. Here, one day costs 33 euros, five days will set you back 87 euros, and parking for fourteen days comes to 151 euros. If you want to stay longer, each additional day costs six euros.

However, these parking spaces are not centrally located at the airport but are distributed around the perimeter. If you park here, you will need to cover the last part of your journey by bus or S-Bahn. The good news is that transfers are free and run every ten minutes directly to the terminal.

Terminal Parking at Franz Josef Strauss Airport

If you prefer to be closer, you can opt for terminal parking. The routes to the aircraft are short, but convenience comes at a price. For one day, you pay 43 euros, five days already accumulate to 215 euros, and if you want to park for two weeks, you should expect costs of 332 euros. Each additional day costs 12 euros.

Parking in the Vicinity of Munich Airport

You can find cheaper or even free parking in the towns surrounding the airport. In Freising, Englschalking, or Daglfing, for example, you can find free parking options – such as leaving your car somewhere on the roadside in a residential area. From there, you can take the S-Bahn or bus to the airport.

While this takes longer and your car is not as well protected as in one of the official parking lots around the airport, those who are willing to take the risk and are not pressed for time can save a considerable amount of money this way.
