Munich Airport Braces for Whitsun Holiday Travel Rush: Over 15,000 Flights to 215 Destinations

Munich, Bavaria, Germany, May 19, 2026 – Munich Airport is preparing for a significant increase in passenger traffic as the Whitsun holidays in Bavaria approach. From May 22 to June 7, 2026, airlines have registered more than 15,000 flight movements to 215 destinations globally. The initial holiday weekend, spanning from Friday to Sunday, is projected to see over 2,500 take-offs and landings.

Popular Destinations and Growing Demand

During the Whitsun holiday period, popular European destinations such as Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, France, and England account for approximately 6,300 flight movements. Demand for intercontinental travel is also robust, with over 860 flights connecting Munich to the USA and Canada. Asian destinations, including Thailand, India, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates, are scheduled for nearly 430 take-offs and landings.

New Pier Enhances Non-Schengen Travel Experience

For the first time, Whitsun travelers departing from Terminal 1 to non-Schengen destinations will utilize the airport’s new pier. This modern facility offers an enhanced passenger experience, featuring high-quality amenities, state-of-the-art security controls, and a diverse range of shopping and dining options.

Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey

To ensure a seamless travel experience, passengers are advised to pack thoughtfully. Carrying only essential items, valuables, medications, and travel documents in hand luggage can expedite the security check process and boarding. Some airlines also offer complimentary short-term check-in for hand luggage. Utilizing online or evening check-in services provided by airlines is also highly recommended.

Travelers driving to the airport can secure parking in advance through the online platform parken.munich-airport.de, as demand for parking spaces is typically high during holiday periods. Passengers should allocate ample time for both their journey to the airport and their stay within the terminals on their departure day. Check-in times can be confirmed directly with individual airlines. Additionally, self-service baggage drop-off machines are available in both terminals for already checked-in passengers.
