Neusäß, Bavaria – On the fourth Advent weekend, a speed enforcement operation by the traffic police on the A8 near Neusäß revealed widespread disregard for speed limits, culminating in a Munich-area driver being clocked at a staggering 213 km/h.
Extensive Speed Checks Yield Alarming Results
The traffic police in Augsburg conducted speed measurements over two days, Saturday and Sunday, targeting the A8 motorway at the Neusäß junction in the direction of Munich. Out of approximately 25,000 vehicles monitored, more than 500 drivers were found to be significantly exceeding the speed limit. Consequently, nearly 300 drivers are expected to face fines.
Severe Penalties for Reckless Drivers
The police confirmed that 14 drivers will be subject to a driving ban due to the severity of their speed violations. The most egregious case involved a driver from the Munich area, who was recorded travelling at 213 km/h in a section where the speed limit is 120 km/h. This means the driver was travelling 93 km/h above the permissible speed.
Such a significant transgression, exceeding the limit by more than 70 km/h, typically results in a fine of 1,400 Euros, two points on their license, and a three-month driving ban, according to police statements. The Munich driver is expected to face a multi-month driving ban as a consequence of this extreme speeding.
Police Emphasize Dangers of Speeding
In light of these findings, the police have issued a strong appeal to all road users to adhere to the legal speed limits. They reiterated that speeding remains the primary cause of serious traffic accidents year after year. The traffic police continuously monitor roads to ensure safety and enforce traffic laws, aiming to reduce the risk of accidents and protect lives.
The operation underscores the ongoing challenge of excessive speeding on German motorways, even in areas with clear speed restrictions. Authorities are committed to maintaining a visible presence and employing enforcement measures to deter dangerous driving behaviours.
