Challenging Rescue Operation in Neuhausen-Nymphenburg

The initial report, received by the control center on Saturday, May 16, indicated a bird in distress. A small alarm vehicle was dispatched first, but upon arrival, responders quickly realized the precarious nature of the situation. The bird was trapped in a net affixed to a balcony in the inner courtyard of a multi-family residence, making access difficult.

Reinforcements were called, including a fire engine equipped with a sliding ladder. Firefighters utilized this equipment to reach the trapped jay. “The jay was caught in a pigeon net on a balcony about ten meters high,” stated a representative from the Munich Fire Department. The team meticulously cut a large hole in the net to liberate the bird, carefully lowering it to the ground using the ladder.

Uninjured Bird Released After Joint Effort

Upon reaching the ground, members of both the fire department and the police collaborated to remove the remaining pieces of the net from the bird. Fortunately, the jay was found to be uninjured and was subsequently released. This successful rescue highlights the diverse range of incidents the Munich Fire Department responds to, often extending beyond traditional fire-fighting duties to include animal welfare.

Community Praises Rescue Efforts

The incident garnered positive attention from the local community, with residents expressing appreciation for the swift and effective response of the emergency services. Comments on local news platforms lauded the heartwarming nature of the rescue, providing a moment of calm amidst the daily hustle and bustle.
