Munich Prepares for Massive Iran Protest: Over 100,000 Expected on Theresienwiese
Munich, February 10, 2026 – Munich is set to host a massive demonstration against the Iranian Mullah regime this Saturday on Theresienwiese, with organizers anticipating an unprecedented turnout of over 100,000 participants from across Europe. The protest, spearheaded by the Munich Circle association, is part of the worldwide ‘Global Day of Action’ initiated by Reza Pahlavi, son of the deposed Shah.
Organizers Expect Record Participation
Ali Shahian, a board member of the Munich Circle association, regularly communicates with relatives and acquaintances in Iran and monitors social media for updates. He describes the situation as a “terrible picture,” with a “fundamental sadness” and a “climate of fear” prevailing after the bloody suppression of protests against the Mullah regime. “What is happening there is inhumane,” says Shahian, emphasizing the need to draw attention to this injustice and the suffering of the population.
Farhid Habibi, chairman of the Munich Circle, stated that Saturday’s demonstration on Theresienwiese is expected to be “the largest gathering of the Iranian diaspora in 47 years.” He projects a turnout of 100,000 people, possibly even more, with participants arriving from all over Europe, including busloads from as far as Norway. The majority of attendees are expected to come from Germany, particularly from large Iranian communities in Hamburg, Berlin, and Cologne. Habibi also anticipates the participation of German citizens who support their cause.
Realism of the 100,000 Figure
The realism of Habibi’s forecast of at least 100,000 participants remains to be seen. A recent demonstration against the Iranian Mullah regime in Berlin drew approximately 10,000 people, according to police estimates. However, unlike the Berlin event, the Munich demonstration is a central part of the ‘Global Day of Action’ called by Reza Pahlavi, who is seen as a beacon of hope by many opposition members but also faces criticism, particularly from leftist and republican factions who oppose a return to monarchy due to human rights violations during his father’s reign.
Despite some criticism, Reza Pahlavi is likely to be celebrated on Theresienwiese. Habibi confirmed that Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the USA, is expected to attend the Munich Security Conference this weekend. His participation at the conference, which brings together top politicians and security experts at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel, was a key factor in scheduling the large-scale rally. The Munich Circle previously organized two events with Reza Pahlavi last year: one during the Security Conference in February and another in the summer, when 600 Iranian opposition members gathered for a congress in Unterschleißheim.
Demands and Solidarity
The rally will commence at 1:00 PM on the southern part of Theresienwiese, where a large stage with screens will be set up. The names of the speakers are being withheld for security reasons, but the event will feature multiple speeches, performances by Iranian musicians, and videos highlighting the current situation in Iran.
Farhid Habibi hopes the rally will raise awareness and demonstrate solidarity with the victims of the brutal Mullah regime. The demonstration will also present concrete political demands, including the classification of the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, a halt to nuclear negotiations with Iran, and the closure of Iranian embassies in Germany. “We demand a change in Germany’s and Europe’s Iran policy,” Habibi stated. “One should not negotiate with despots who slaughter their own population.”
Ali Shahian hopes the worldwide ‘Global Day of Action,’ which also includes rallies in Los Angeles and Toronto, will resonate with regime opponents in Iran. “We want to send a signal and give a voice to those who are being silenced in Iran,” Shahian said. “It’s about spreading their message to the world.”
