Munich Panthers Triumph in 4th League Opener
Munich, September 22, 2026 – The ambitious new handball project, the Munich Panthers, began their journey in the 4th league with a commanding 38:20 victory over TSV Lohr. The match, held in Fürstenfeldbruck, saw former Bundesliga player Lucas Krzikalla emerge as the top scorer with eight goals.
A New Era for Munich Handball
The Munich Panthers project, spearheaded by 2007 World Champion Dominik Klein and 2016 European Champion Steffen Weinhold, aims to rapidly ascend to the Bundesliga. This new handball association (HG) Munich has partnered with TuS Fürstenfeldbruck, utilizing their license to compete as the Munich Panthers. Their home games are currently played at the Wittelsbacher Halle in Fürstenfeldbruck.
To achieve their goal of reaching the 3rd league, ten new players have been recruited. Among them is Lucas Krzikalla, 32, who played in the Bundesliga for SC DHfK Leipzig until the summer. In his debut for the Panthers, Krzikalla immediately made an impact, scoring eight goals in front of 600 fans, including three penalties.
“Even though I’ve been doing this for many years, the excitement was still there,” admitted the right winger. “For me, it’s also the first new club in my career,” he added, referring to his long tenure in Leipzig.
Krzikalla on the Team’s Performance and Environment
Krzikalla expressed satisfaction with the team’s initial performance. “After all the publicity beforehand, we could finally show what it’s all about – playing handball. And I think we did quite well,” he stated.
While the team’s aspirations are high, Krzikalla acknowledged the current environment is a far cry from the Bundesliga. “It’s completely normal. It would be utopian if you didn’t notice a difference,” he remarked. He humorously recounted a pre-game moment: “Because one of our two changing rooms was still occupied by our second team, I changed halfway in the corridor. But that also has its charm.”

The dominant victory against TSV Lohr marks a promising start for the Munich Panthers. The team’s strong performance, coupled with the leadership of experienced players and former champions, sets a positive tone for their ambitious journey towards the Bundesliga.
