Munich Public Transport (MVG) Holiday Schedule: Christmas & New Year 2025

The Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) is ensuring mobility throughout Munich during the Christmas and New Year holidays, with U-Bahn, bus, and tram services operating with special schedules. Passengers can expect extended services on some lines and diversions, particularly around New Year’s Eve festivities.

Detailed Schedule Overview:

Christmas Eve (December 24th)

  • Until approximately 2:30 PM: Saturday schedule applies.
  • After 2:30 PM: Bus lines 100, 132, 139, 145, 155, 168, 180, 181, 193, and 197 will operate every 20 minutes instead of every 10 minutes.
  • Tram 25: Runs every 10 minutes between Max-Weber-Platz and Großhesselohe, and every 20 minutes to Grünwald.
  • Tram 28: Service is canceled.
  • U-Bahn: Supplementary services on U6 between Münchner Freiheit and Harras are canceled, and U8 service is completely suspended.

Christmas Holidays (December 25th & 26th)

  • The Sunday and public holiday schedule will be in effect.

New Year’s Eve (December 31st)

  • Daytime: Saturday schedule applies.
  • New Year’s Eve Night: U-Bahn, NightBus, and NightTram services will be intensified.
  • Larger buses may be deployed on some routes.

New Year’s Day (January 1st)

  • The Sunday schedule will be in effect.

Diversions due to New Year’s Eve Celebrations:

Please note that the Ludwigstraße will be closed to traffic for the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Consequently, the following bus lines will be diverted:

  • From Sunday, December 28th to Friday, January 2nd: Bus lines 58/68, 153, and 154.
  • From Monday, December 29th: Night lines N40, N41, and N45.
  • On Wednesday, December 31st, from approximately 11:00 PM: Bus line 100 will be diverted due to the New Year’s Eve celebration at Friedensengel.
