Munich S-Bahn: Construction Work Leads to Repeated Disruptions in June
Munich, June 13 – Commuters in Munich must once again anticipate significant disruptions to S-Bahn services, particularly on the Stammstrecke, throughout June due to extensive construction work. These restrictions will also extend to the outer S-Bahn network and impact regional train services.
First Weekend of Disruptions: June 12-15
From Friday, June 12, at 10:15 PM, until Monday, June 15, around 4:00 AM, the number of trains able to pass through the Stammstrecke will be significantly reduced. This is due to work being carried out by DB Infrago, the railway infrastructure subsidiary, at Ostbahnhof and Leuchtenbergring. During this period, no S-Bahn trains will operate between Trudering and Ostbahnhof.
The MVG had previously issued warnings about potential bottlenecks on Friday evening following the Linkin Park concert at the Allianz Arena.
Specific Line Changes (June 12-15):
- S1: The Leuchtenbergring stop will be cancelled.
- S2: Will run through the Stammstrecke, but a rail replacement service will be in operation between Ostbahnhof and Markt Schwaben.
- S4: Will only operate between Geltendorf and Pasing.
- S6: Affected by additional construction work at Westkreuz. Trains in the west will only run between Tutzing and Gauting, and between Westkreuz and Hauptbahnhof. In the east, S-Bahns from Ebersberg will terminate in Trudering.
- S8: Will only operate between Herrsching and Harthaus, and between Ostbahnhof and the airport.
- S3, S5, S7: Will operate normally.
Second Weekend of Disruptions: June 20-21
One week later, from Saturday, June 20, to Sunday, June 21, between 4:00 AM and 4:00 PM on both days, further disruptions are expected with fewer trains running on the Stammstrecke. During this period, only the S7 and S8 lines will operate regularly.
Specific Line Changes (June 20-21):
- S1: Will only run between Freising/Airport and Hauptbahnhof.
- S2: The Riem and Leuchtenbergring stops will be cancelled.
- S3: Will only operate between Mammendorf and Ostbahnhof, and between Deisenhofen and Holzkirchen.
- S4: Will only operate between Geltendorf and Pasing.
- S5: Will only run from Kreuzstraße to Giesing.
- S6: Will only operate between Tutzing and Pasing, and between Trudering and Ebersberg.
Impact on Regional Train Services
Construction work at Westkreuz will also have significant consequences for regional train services. From Tuesday, June 2, at 3:00 AM, until Monday, June 15, around 4:00 AM, regional trains between Starnberg and Munich Hauptbahnhof will be completely cancelled, with replacement bus services provided. Disruptions, including cancellations, are also expected on the Munich – Weilheim and Munich – Garmisch railway lines during this period.
