Munich, December 25 – Detectives Ivo Batic (Miroslav Nemec) and Franz Leitmayr (Udo Wachtveitl) are currently investigating the suspicious death of actress Nora Nielsen (Giulia Goldammer) during a performance at the prestigious Munich Residenztheater. This marks one of their final cases before the duo retires in 2026.

Tragedy Strikes During ‘The Seagull’ Performance

The incident occurred during a live staging of Anton Chekhov’s classic play, “The Seagull.” Nora Nielsen collapsed on stage and was later confirmed to have died from an overdose of the painkiller Tilidin. “Given the quantity in her blood, we assume the overdose was not accidental,” stated Detective Batic.

Lara Frost (Stephanie Schönfeld), the stage manager, noted that Nielsen had been behaving unusually in recent weeks, frequently arriving late and even refusing to perform the previous evening. This raises questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Behind the Scenes: A World of Jealousy and Intrigue

The investigation has led Batic and Leitmayr deep into the intricate world behind the theater’s glittering facade. They are exploring a realm rife with professional jealousy, personal affairs, and hidden depths among the cast and crew. Initial inquiries include questioning Ria Jäger (Liliane Amuat), a dresser who was reportedly close to the deceased actress.

Intendant Freya von Kaltenberg (Anna Stieblich) expressed shock at the events but insisted that the show must go on, citing a sold-out house. A bottle of Tilidin was found in Nielsen’s locker, but without fingerprints, detectives are considering the possibility that it was planted.

A Personal Connection to the Residenztheater

For lead actor Miroslav Nemec, filming at the Residenztheater held special significance. He was a permanent ensemble member at the theater from 1981 to 1986. In an interview with BR’s “Abendschau,” Nemec described the experience as both beautiful and emotionally moving, evoking many memories.

The current production features several members of the “Resi” ensemble, as the theater is affectionately known, including Liliane Amuat, Vassilissa Reznikoff, and Lukas Rüppel, providing an authentic glimpse into the daily life of a theatrical institution.

The End of an Era for Munich’s ‘Tatort’

This case is one of the last for Wachtveitl and Nemec, who have served as Munich’s ‘Tatort’ detectives for 34 years. Their final ‘Tatort’ film, tentatively titled “Unvergänglich,” is a two-part special (episodes 99 and 100) that has already been filmed and is scheduled for broadcast in 2026.

A hint of their impending departure is already present in this 98th film. Actor Johannes Lange (Robert Kuchenbuch) remarks, “Perhaps people will miss you when you’re no longer here.” Meanwhile, Batic proudly observes that their long-time assistant, Kalli Hammermann (Ferdinand Hofer), has been “well-trained.”

Kalli Hammermann is set to take over the investigations alongside Chief Inspector Nikola Buvak (Carlo Ljubek). Their first film, provisionally titled “Zwischenwelten,” has also been completed and is expected to air in 2026.
