Munich, April 28 – The Munich public transport company (SWM/MVG) announced that the U-Bahn station Innsbrucker Ring will undergo modernization, necessitating track closures on several weekends until June 21. The renovation work will primarily affect the U5 line, with service adjustments in place for passengers.

U5 Service Adjustments at Innsbrucker Ring

According to a statement from the Munich Transport Company (MVG), the U5 line will operate with restrictions on weekends from Thursday, April 30, to Sunday, June 21. On these days, service will run only between Laimer Platz and Innsbrucker Ring, starting from approximately 10:30 PM on Fridays until the end of service on Sundays, as well as on public holidays.

Passengers traveling between Innsbrucker Ring and Neuperlach Süd can use the U8 or U7 lines as alternatives, transferring at Innsbrucker Ring or Hauptbahnhof. In some cases, a transfer via the mezzanine level at Innsbrucker Ring will be necessary.

Affected Dates for Weekend Closures:

  • Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3
  • Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17
  • Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25
  • Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31
  • Wednesday, June 3 to Sunday, June 7
  • Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14
  • Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21

The MVG’s alternative service plan indicates that for the U5, the U8 will operate between Innsbrucker Ring and Neuperlach Süd. Additionally, on Friday, June 5, the U7 will also run on this section. However, from Innsbrucker Ring, these booster lines will not follow the usual U5 route.

Innsbrucker Ring Station Gets a ‘New Look’

Instead, these trains will continue via the U2 line route, passing through Giesing Bahnhof and Sendlinger Tor to Hauptbahnhof. From there, they will continue on their regular schedule to Olympia-Einkaufszentrum (U7) or Olympiazentrum (U8).

As part of the renovation, the Innsbrucker Ring U-Bahn station will also receive a “new look,” according to the MVG. Initially, the back-of-track facades will be redesigned. This involves removing the panels behind the tracks and partially renovating the concrete. Subsequently, the walls will receive a fresh coat of paint.

The design will align with the already completed U-Bahn stations Karl-Preis-Platz and Giesing Bahnhof. The ceiling and lighting will be modernized at a later stage.

Passenger Information and Future Plans

The MVG stated that passengers will be informed about the changes through notices, ticker texts, and announcements. Further information is available on the special page mvg.de/modernisierung under the “Gestaltung” section. Operational information and connection details can also be found on mvg.de and in the MVGO app.

This modernization project aims to improve the infrastructure and aesthetic appeal of the Innsbrucker Ring station, ensuring a better experience for commuters in Munich.
