Munich Urges Water Conservation Amid Heatwave: Pools, Car Washes Discouraged

Munich, June 24 – Amid a scorching heatwave, Munich’s utility company, Stadtwerke München (SWM), has issued an urgent appeal for residents to conserve water. With temperatures consistently around 30 degrees Celsius and no immediate end to the heatwave in sight, SWM is asking citizens to refrain from non-essential water usage to alleviate pressure on the city’s water supply system.

Significant Increase in Water Consumption

The call for conservation follows a noticeable surge in water consumption. On an average June day, SWM distributes approximately 300,000 cubic meters of drinking water. However, current figures show a daily consumption of 360,000 cubic meters, representing an increase of about one-fifth. Statistically, this translates to an average daily increase from 200 to 240 liters per person in Munich.
