Munich’s Hoffmann Group to Close Göppingen Site, 34 Employees Affected by Strategic Realignment
Munich, July 25 – The Hoffmann Group, a prominent Munich-based manufacturer of tools, operating equipment, and personal protective equipment, has confirmed the closure of its Göppingen site in Baden-Württemberg by the end of 2026. This decision, attributed to a strategic realignment of the company’s German sales organization, will impact 34 employees.
The Hoffmann Group, founded in 1919, employs approximately 4,000 people worldwide. The Göppingen site, operating as Hoffmann Göppingen Qualitätswerkzeuge GmbH & Co. KG, was integrated into the group in 2008. It subsequently developed into a competence center for machining and metrology. However, the company has now decided to cease operations at this location.
Strategic Realignment Leads to Site Closure
In a statement to our editorial team, the Hoffmann Group explained the rationale behind the closure: “The reason for the closure of the site is a strategic realignment of the sales organization in Germany, through which we are adapting the structure of our sales organization.” This strategic shift aims to optimize the company’s sales infrastructure.
The 34 affected employees were personally informed about the impending closure and their terminations in March 2026. The company emphasized its commitment to supporting these individuals during this transition. “We have personally informed all affected colleagues in March 2026 about the closure of the sites and the associated terminations,” the statement confirmed.
Support for Affected Employees
Since the initial announcement, the Hoffmann Group has been actively assisting the affected employees through an outplacement program. This employer-funded counseling service is designed to help staff find new employment opportunities. The company also stated, “Furthermore, we have been able to find a socially acceptable solution with all affected colleagues in individual discussions.”
Operations at Hoffmann Göppingen Qualitätswerkzeuge GmbH & Co. KG are expected to continue without restriction until the official closure date of December 31, 2026.
Hoffmann Group’s Presence in Germany
Beyond Göppingen, the Hoffmann Group’s operations in southwestern Germany include Garant Productions GmbH in Reutlingen. The Garant brand, established in 1973, is known for its premium quality tools. The company maintains several other German locations, including Munich, Nuremberg, Bremen, Essen, Cologne, Bielefeld, and Braunschweig.
The closure of the Göppingen site underscores a challenging economic climate where site consolidations and strategic reorganizations are becoming increasingly common. Recently, the Freudenberg Group from Baden-Württemberg also announced plans to close a site in Bavaria, highlighting a broader trend in the German industrial landscape.
