Munich’s Westbad Indoor Pool to Undergo Extensive Renovations, Closing Until Autumn 2026
Munich, March 29 – The Westbad, a highly frequented indoor swimming facility in Munich’s Pasing district, is set to close its indoor section from late April until autumn 2026 for significant renovation work. The primary focus of these upgrades will be the modernization of the pool’s filter system, ensuring compliance with the latest standards.
The closure, commencing on April 27, will span the entire summer period, with the indoor pool not expected to reopen until autumn 2026. This marks the second extended closure for the Westbad in recent years. Previously, the indoor pool was shut for nearly a full year until mid-April 2025 due to a protracted roof renovation project. That earlier closure experienced delays attributed to adverse weather conditions, supply and material bottlenecks, and the re-awarding of a contract, pushing back its initial reopening target of October 2024.
Westbad Outdoor Pool to Remain Open for Summer Season
Despite the temporary closure of the indoor facilities, residents of Pasing and surrounding areas will still have access to swimming options. The Westbad outdoor pool will not be affected by the renovation work and is scheduled to open to the public on May 14, 2026. It will operate daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM until the end of August, with closing hours shifting to 7:00 PM in September.
Visitors to the city’s public pools should note the introduction of a new ticketing system for the upcoming outdoor pool season. This system will feature a new ‘M-Bäderkarte,’ available both as a traditional chip card and in a digital format for mobile devices. However, cash payments for admission will still be accepted at the outdoor pool’s ticket counters.
The comprehensive renovation of the Westbad’s filter system aims to enhance the facility’s operational efficiency and ensure a high standard of water quality for future patrons.
