New Club C115 Opens on Historic AVUS Grandstand in Berlin-Westend
Berlin, January 12, 2026 – While Berlin’s club landscape has recently been dominated by closures, a new venue for electronic music has emerged in the western part of the city. The club C115 opened in December 2025 on the historic AVUS grandstand in Westend, marking a rare addition to the club culture in the western inner city.
For years, techno clubs in Berlin primarily concentrated in Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, or Neukölln. The decision to open a club in Westend, a district not typically associated with electronic music and in a location previously linked to traffic, trade fairs, and the city motorway, is therefore particularly noteworthy.
Historic AVUS Grandstand: From Racing Monument to New Club Location
The AVUS grandstand is one of the most striking relics of Berlin’s transport history. Built for car races on the Automobil-Verkehrs- und Übungsstraße (Automobile Traffic and Test Road), it once accommodated thousands of spectators. Since the end of the races in the 1950s, the structure had long stood without a clear purpose.
With C115, the grandstand is now being given a new cultural lease of life. The club is located in the former speaker’s box, a glazed area with a direct view of the motorway. This location consciously utilizes the special atmosphere of the place without overshadowing its history.
Operator Nico Mohammadi: C115 Starts with Selected Events Instead of Continuous Operation
Behind the project is musician and restaurateur Nico Mohammadi. He took over the opportunity after the previous tenant withdrew from the property. Mohammadi told the taz that he immediately fell in love with the location and saw its potential for a new event venue.
Initially, C115 will not operate continuously. Selected events are planned first. In addition to parties, the club is also intended for other formats such as film screenings or smaller events in the future. Its proximity to the exhibition grounds plays a central role in this.
Clubs on the Outskirts in Trend: C115 as a Sign of Change in Berlin’s Club Culture
This new opening comes at a time when many established Berlin clubs have had to cease operations or are facing major economic challenges. Inflation, rising rents, and the consequences of the pandemic have noticeably changed the scene. Against this background, C115 is also seen as a symbol of a spatial shift in club culture.
Representatives of the Clubcommission see new locations outside the classic scene districts as part of a long-term development. Clubs in peripheral and mixed-use areas could reach new target groups, even if they do not replace existing locations in the city center.
Good Connections and Low Noise Pollution: Advantages of the Club Location on the AVUS Grandstand
One advantage of the location lies in its infrastructure. The AVUS grandstand is not far from the Messe Süd S-Bahn station and is therefore well connected. At the same time, conflicts of use due to noise are less likely, as the club is located directly on the motorway.
Whether C115 will permanently establish itself in Berlin’s club calendar remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that with its opening on the AVUS grandstand, nightlife in the west of the city is getting a new impetus – in a place that had long remained unused.
